snowy april

I want spring--and spring is on its way. I can feel it. I can see the daffodils and hyacinths beginning to bloom, and the tulips are not far behind. Some of the willows are starting to leaf, and there is sometimes a hint of summer warmth in the air. And then, Sunday morning, this is what I saw out the back door: Beautiful, but Not Spring. Luckily, it didn't last long. Today, Tuesday, there is hardly anything left except a few cotton puffs of snow here and there. Soon, I hope, we'll use the picnic table for eating outdoors in the warm. And I will remember that sometimes things we don't wish for happen to us anyway, or they happen when we don't want them--after all, this would be very welcome on December 24. I will try to see beauty in life's unexpected (and unwanted) events, but I will probably still wish they will go away as quickly as a spring snowfall.

  1. My backyard looked very similar. I am tired of winter as well and am eager for Spring to arrive. I love how you talked about seeing the beauty in the unexpected. It's so easy to complain about the snow, but it really is beautiful. Hopefully a warm front comes in soon!

  2. What a beautiful picture, but not in April. Our Sunday had a record breaking high of 86 then a high of 46 on Monday. Sure wish the weather would get it together and behave.

  3. The picture says it all. It is certainly beautiful, but also certainly not wanted. The "wishes" reasoning is such good, gentle advice. We should all listen! We too had snow Sunday, after an 85 degree day on Saturday. The moisture was welcomed, the snow wasn't so much.

  5. Wow, I thought the few flurries I saw this morning was enough. Your picture is beautiful. I like your line "I will try to see beauty in life's unexpected (and unwanted) events". We grow through those times. I appreciate your positive attitude. MaryHelen
